31.1.10

Day 31

Glad Thing 1 got to hit this week.
After a foot of snow, I'm pretty sure the cages are closed.

30.1.10

Day 30

It was too cold to play on this very, very snowy day.

28.1.10

Day 29

Batting cages. It's what we do.
(and I like it!)

Day 28

The moon.
The setting sun.
The soaring seagull.
I am sure the Lord painted that scene just for me.
Beautiful.

Day 27

Sea oats planted ever so carefully at...
the batting cages. See the net?

25.1.10

Day 25

I never look forward to my husband going to Chicago,
but mmmmmmmm, Garrett's Carmel-buttered Popcorn!

24.1.10

Day 24

A long road back and forth to Mom and Dad's.
Today made heats number five and six in the last week.
Today's tunes made it bearable.
Thank you ipod.
Thankful (and totally worth it) to see my family.

23.1.10

Day 23

Those sweet little toes.
We had a great "date" day together, those toes and me.

Day 22

Thing 1 decided to spend $20 for a birthday cake today.
He *really* wanted this cake.
Happy Birthday whoever you are, your cake was good.

21.1.10

Day 21

Just another glamorous day.

19.1.10

Day 20

Winter berries. Creator God-Awesome!

Day 19

Enough said.

Day 18

Thing 1 doing what he loves to do most, and a gorgeous January spoiler day to do it.

Day 17

So the assignment was self-portraits. You should see the out-takes!
I love how this angle hides a bunch of my flaws and highlights my eyes. I like my eyes. ;)

Day 16

Chillaxin' at the hotel. He's growing up.
(but I'm not allowed to point out the real beginnings of a moustache-shhh!)

Day 15

A Splishin' and a slpashin'
In Lynchburg for the weekend visiting the Weeks and Grandma and Pop.
What a blast!

Day 14

The sun IS still around! (So is the baseball field.)

13.1.10

Day 13

We had snow 3 weeks ago and it's STILL around town in places. Unbelievable for us!

Day 12

It's been way too cold to get outside for pictures, so here's what it looks like when trying to learn and use my bounce flash indoors.

Day 11

Just another day in the life. I love watching my boys learn something every day.

10.1.10

Day 10

Thing 1-He's got so much going for him. Luke 2:52 is my prayer for him; as Jesus grew in wisdom, in stature and in favor with God and man, so may he.

9.1.10

Day 9

Beware! Ninja in the making. Thing 2 (Yes, there is a Thing 1, I'll get to him soon!) announced that HE is going to be a REAL Ninja when he grows up. Go get 'em, kid!

8.1.10

Day 8

Finally figuring out M mode. A quick snapshot of Thing 2 being silly wearing Thing 1's hat sideways.

7.1.10

Fireside Chat

Freezing rain and snow fall outside on this frigid night. All this cold isn't too common around here and for that I am thankful; the cold hurts! My fireplace has in one week warmed me up more than the entire past year. I like that. It's almost as if it whispers with each flicker, "Come, sit, relax, enjoy, slow down,"  and January continues slipping away.

Already I'm in the flux of getting behind on too many daily chores. As I run through my house I am unable to escape the very real reminders that piles, books, planning, and even entire rooms (almost audibly) moan for my attention. I need blinders and ear plugs.  And this year- now more than ever, my heart pounds as my soul bursts with silent screams of desires I've held in my innermost being for "some day." I leave them there, unmentioned.

Yet tonight as I dream by the fire,  it seems my heart and soul have taken over my mind in their own fireside chat.  I hold back the emotion of wishing and dreaming as their conversation grows louder. Maybe I'll be courageous enough to follow their lead. Maybe this will be the year my silence is broken and dreams are made reality. Maybe. Just maybe

No matter how your heart is grieving

If you keep on believing
the dream that you wish will come true.

Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Day 7

Plans. Schedules. Calendars. It's only January and I'm half way through 2010 already!

6.1.10

Day 6

Thing 2; fighting his first cold but cute as ever. Me; learning to shoot in full manual and forgot to change my white balance when I went outside to shoot. Shoot!

5.1.10

Day 5

Yes it's true! My Thing 2 is head over heals in love...move over Alvin!

4.1.10

Day 4

A wonderful time at the library today with my youngest son. I could spend all day there several times a week. If only! I love seeing Thing 2's imagination come to life as we peruse the shelves of books and make the puppets come alive. Today's choices:

3.1.10

Day 3

This is the year that my boys change. A lot. Thing 1 turns 16, drives and leaves very little, if any, of little boy left behind as he presses toward adulthood. He's one great young man. This mom couldn't be more thankful or proud. Thing 2 turns six this year. He's going on 26 but that doesn't take away from the abundance of childlike-wonder he shares with me daily. When a boy turns five, all things baby are jettisoned on the wayside as it's full steam ahead to growing up. Slow down, guys. I wish I could freeze time.

2.1.10

Day 2

Met with a former student and friend at the church where she'll be married. I learned a lesson in photography: don't forget to change the white balance setting. I think I should try out RAW settings, too. I'll keep learning and practicing with my new camera until her wedding day comes. It's not easy exiting a comfort zone in hopes of greater things!

1.1.10

Day 1

I want to slow down enough this year to be refreshed in the Lord and in my ordinary doings of day to day. Happy New Year!

Ringing in a new year. Here's to 2010 and a perfect way to start it...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Slow down; enjoy this year.
